WIOA reforms federal job training programs into a single, comprehensive workforce investment system. It is built to be customer-focused: helping people manage their careers through good information and high-quality services, and helping employers find skilled workers.
In Ohio, local control and decision-making are maximized through state and local partnerships. WIOA services in this county are provided through the OhioMeansJobs® Perry County Resource Room.
The goal of WIOA is to increase participant employment, job retention, earnings and occupational skill attainment.
Who is eligible
WIOA employment and training services target three groups.
Adults
Eligible to work in the United States, age 18 or older, and registered for Selective Service if applicable.
Dislocated workers
Individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own.
Youth
Low-income youth ages 16 to 24 who are also one or more of the following:
- Deficient in basic literacy skills
- Homeless
- A school dropout
- An ex-offender
- A runaway
- A foster child
- Pregnant or a parent
Employer services
WIOA helps businesses find good employees, funds training on and off the job to improve workforce quality, and administers tax credits available to businesses that hire certain workers.
